My bad.

Hi Guys…

So…it has been….some time.  It has been such a long time since I have felt like blogging and life really got in the way…classic life. It looks like I have completely missed out on updating an entire year of my life (actually, just over by a bit).

I really don’t know where to begin.  So many things happened.

So I should start at the beginning,  I guess. Beginning of 2017 was pretty normal as usual. Work, grind, home life.  Nothing overly exciting.

We did find out in October of 2016 that my brother and sister in law were having another baby, and spoilers a beautiful baby girl was born in June!! So THAT was exciting.

The sweetest little girl in the world

I did get to go and see Brad Paisley with my Mumsie in February 2017…so again, that was some pretty fascinating stuff.

Love that Paisley

Jules and I started going on some adventures together – I thought it would be a good idea to take her to a club, bar, etc. (This was before I hit 33, and let me tell you how ….painful it was).  I discovered a few things that evening:

  1. It is too early to go out to a club at 9:00pm.
  2. Never trust a broken lock on a bathroom (and a distracted but love-able pal who was “guarding the door” for you).
  3. I am just too old for that shit.

So that was an awkward evening, but it also cemented a beautiful and important friendship in my life – so yay awkward evenings?

I am going to fast forward to mid 2017 (a lot of fun and unique things did happen in between, I am sure, but I don’t recall everything and I am far too lazy to write it all down).

Brian and I than begin the crazy adventure of looking for a house to purchase. I had a full time job, Brian had a full time job and the timing seemed right.

Spoilers: This was about to change. Oh, how this was about to change.

I saw this coming from a couple miles ahead, so I wasn’t really surprised but I was laid off of my full time job that I had returned to in…ironically my last post . I was pretty upset/devastated…because I thought things were finally settled, and we were at the cusp of owning our own home, but some dreams you just have to put aside.

This ended up working out in the end though, not just for my mental health, but financially as well.  But naturally, I was upset at first. But they had given me until the end of the month, and were pretty nice about me taking time off for interviews, so I guess that’s something…

last day at tc

My bestie and I. Last day at work,

Being unemployed had it’s perks.

I  applied for a few jobs and within a week or so I got two calls from two very different companies. I was shockingly surprised that I heard back from anyone this quickly, though, I was still cautious.

Job A sounded pretty good, it was full time, benefits, etc. I went to that interview and thought I did well, but in the end it was not meant to be. I imagine that they went with someone with more experience.  But it was still really good experience for me to go, and it gave me a confidence boost that they were even interested in the first place.

Job B sounded really interesting to me as well, though it was part time, but I applied for it anyway.  On a side note with this, at the time I felt that if I was not being laid off I would not have applied for the new job, because it was only offering part-time, but in the end this turned out to be the very best thing for me.

Interviews are nerve wracking, but’s a great excuse to buy a sharp outfit.

I had two interviews with them and I ended up getting the job. The organization is very interesting and I am part of something that is bringing a positive change into schools, with families, and even in my own life. I am genuinely enjoying my role. It was nice because I was only unemployed for about a month, so this really helped things along.

My current position involves a lot of different things, and I have been given different opportunities to take on more responsibilities, while learning, growing and developing new skills.  Also, there is room for me to grow here. I won’t be stuck in one position, one pay scale, etc. Where in my previous position, as much as I needed and liked it at the time, I don’t think I was going to be able to grow.

Also,  on a unique side, everyone works remotely, from home so no more public transportation (I still don’t have my license) and hello pajama days! 🙂 I bought a new desk and set up a temporary office/haven for myself to separate from the apartment. At first I was hesitant and worried that I would not be able to separate office and home life, but it turns out it’s been fantastic. Though, I do miss the socialization of being in an office with other people, I really enjoy the independence of working from home. I spend less money on coffees out, I get to eat lunch at home, I can wear comfy and cozy clothes and listen to music…it’s been really really nice.

Also,  I have an excuse to decorate my office and my new office at the new place (spoilers much, Jamie) will be amazing. I am looking forward to decorating it and really making it my own.

home is where the pants aren't

Also, to note in between all of this, I can’t forget to mention that my cousin got married in the summer, and so I have another nephew (that is what we are calling him since she is a sister to me haha). So that was incredible.

The new little guy in the fam. He kinda likes me.

We also had family pictures taken at the cottage – I spent a nice amount of time there!

Jules and I also went to see Ed Sheeran, which was an amazing experience. We had such a great time.

Look at those arms!

We got really close to this summer, and I consider her one of my closest friends…..Jules also made me try Sushi! I (almost) forgot. She took a picture and I can’t track it down but it is truly hilarious.

[Edit] The saucy minx found the picture.

The bestie and I also a truly fantastic shopping trip! We went to the OC and had really fun day of gossiping (sorry GO Transit Bus Driver) and so much shopping. (Hello, Sephora!)alana and I

After my three month probationary period, I transitioned from part-time to full time with benefits, I received two bonuses (for taking on some extra roles) and a pay raise. So career-wise, 2017 was a bit of an up and down roller coaster- but 2018 will be a smooth ride I think.

So once October hit (my three month probationary period just ended) Brian and I decided it couldn’t hurt to look at some houses on the market – we were not thinking it would be possible for us to purchase anything just yet, but going to open houses were fun and a real eye opener.  But thanks to the support of our family. next thing you know, November comes around and we purchased our very first home – a cozy little corner town house, which was unexpected and crazy. Everything sort of happened so fast at that point and the next thing you know we got a Mortgage, gave our notice to our landlord, and we are currently in the process of packing and cleaning and all of that fun stuff….

new house

Welcome to the world of home ownership Jamie and Brian. 🙂

Our new home has a lot of potential and we are really excited that we will be moving into our first home (in late February).  We crunched our numbers, and we know that the first year may be hard, stressful and a learning curve, but we are really thrilled.

So, I think that is all I can think of for now. I am really hoping to start up the blog again, as I find it helps me organize my disorganized thoughts.

“Adventures in House Renovations – Let’s hope my husband doesn’t get sick of me”…..has a nice ring for a blog title.

something’s gotta give…

So I’ve been quite terrible with keeping this blog up. So many things have happened since I last posted.

I am posting because I am pretty excited that I won tickets in a draw to see Rain Maida and Chantal Kreviazuk in concert this Wednesday.

So I am pretty excited about that. Date night bitches.

Next month is my 1 year anniversary at work – that is pretty exciting for me as it’s been 1 year since I have started to get my career on track.

(On a side note – I really don’t miss retail AT ALL).

I’ve gained alot of the weight (that I had lost) back – so I am a tad disappointed in myself..but I am going to be trying something new in the next couple of months and see if that works…because I’ve heard it works. 🙂

OOh on another note – we tried this really delicious new recipe last night – Balsamic Glazed Steak Rolls – it was super delicious!

We are awesomeNothing really more to report – personally so here are my ramblings on recent movies/tv shows that I want to see/currently watching/watched/etc

I am really loving Amy Schumer lately…her new movie Trainwreck looks hilarious. I am really looking forward to seeing that.

Also, because I am a dork and love YA novels/movies I also want to read/watch Papertowns.

Brian and I will more than likely will see Antman with Paul Rudd…because well..its Marvel…and well..Paul Rudd.

OH Game of Thrones has been crazy this year…just so much craziness…can’t believe there is only one more epsiode for this season :(.

Semi spoilerish TV ranting:

Also, Grey’s Anatomy killed off Derek Sheppard – which I was quite upset about. I bawled like a baby.  Goodbye Patrick Dempsey.

Anyways, i don’t really have much more to say so until next time – keep it real.
